In-S project

The work presented is part of a series titled In-S, which consists of 18 canvases. This project was conceived thanks to an accidental finding during a walk in the Old City of Jerusalem. In a pile of construction rubble, I found a stone marked by carvings. The stone, which is perhaps hundreds of years old, represents a splintered piece of physical history of the city and its dwellers.

The image of it standing as part of a mountain for thousands of years, later to be quarried and brought to Jerusalem and used in construction has captivated my imagination. The stone has witnessed countless events, becoming a single concrete image, materializing the spirit of the sacred city of Jerusalem. The form of the stone has served as a starting point for the exploration and personal interpretation of the perceptions and relationships that govern my connection with the region and its antiquity.

The fragment allows to think of the whole – the splintered piece comes to life with a multitude of images, it gains movement and a new life through manifestations of the infinite being contained within the finite physical object. The change the scale (the actual size of the stone is 11.5x7 cm) through doubling and tripling the shape of the stone and magnifying it dozens of times to allow me to move away from the actual object, coming closer to its probable nature within the sacred space. This is an opportunity to escape the bounds of immobile “dead objects” and reach new depths of self, to prevent and preserve the inner balance, and to receive, as a reward - Harmony.

The given work presents the core of the experiences and transformations I am undergoing as an individual, a woman and an artist. Striving to grasp the interaction of the human and physical elements within their unity and opposition.
